DragonWear:

Innovating Safety and Leading with Heart

Written by Ken Lulow

I recently had an opportunity to visit DragonWear headquarters, witnessing firsthand how this iconic brand, a subsidiary of True North Gear, has risen from humble beginnings to become an industry leader in Arc-rated clothing and lifesaving gear. What began in the garage of founder Alyx Fier with a vision to produce dependable, high-performance gear has evolved into a world-renowned name, trusted by workers in some of the most dangerous and demanding professions.

From the moment I stepped into DragonWear’s facility, I could feel that this wasn’t just another company—it was a community. A place where passion for innovation and a relentless commitment to safety were woven into every conversation and every product. I met many members of the team behind the brand, and toured their new showroom, which beautifully displays a variety of their highly coveted products. From outdoor gear designed for wildland firefighters to the cutting-edge, industry-leading Arc-rated clothing they’re known for today, the evolution of DragonWear’s designs and technology is nothing short of remarkable, it is a testament to years of research, craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of the people who depend on it.

One of the highlights of the visit was witnessing the innovation lab, where the team continues to push the boundaries of safety apparel, improving products, solving problems that had long plagued those working in dangerous environments and developing solutions to solve age-old problems. DragonWear, a globally recognized brand, remains committed to their Seattle-based roots, still utilizing local clothing manufacturers to produce their innovative, comfortable, high-quality gear, ensuring that every piece of Arc-rated clothing is of the highest standard. Knowing their gear could be the difference for the wearer making it home or not, there is a deep sense of responsibility, craftsmanship, and pride that goes into every item, backed up by a lifetime material warranty.

What struck me most, though, was DragonWear’s unwavering commitment to the people who wear their products. It’s rare to find a brand that not only excels in what they do but also stays true to the values they were built on. DragonWear hasn't forgotten where they came from or the partnerships that helped them along the way. They are a proud sponsor of line workers across the nation, advocating for the brave men and women who risk their lives to keep our world running. Their commitment to line workers, wildland firefighters, and other dangerous professions is more than just business —it’s their mission. They believe in the work these professionals do, and they’re honored to play a part in keeping them safe.

The culture that fuels DragonWear is what truly sets them apart. Every person I met—from Alyx Fier to Steve Misiano, Jacqueline LeClair to Nick Faulkner, and the many other incredible individuals—weren’t just employees but a part of a family that believe in the purpose of their work. There’s an energy there that’s hard to describe. It’s the kind of passion that you can feel as soon as you walk into the room, a shared purpose that goes beyond making great products. DragonWear is a shining example of what a company can be when it values its people, its partners, and the communities it serves. They’ve built something far greater than a successful business; they’ve built a legacy rooted in integrity, safety, and heart.

DragonWear isn’t just another gear company. It’s a symbol of what happens when innovation is driven by purpose, when quality is fueled by a belief in something bigger, and when safety is more than just a feature—it’s a promise.
